The last days of summer are here and that means it’s time to get your heater fall-ready. Is your HVAC unit ready? Here at Affordable Service Plumbing and HVAC, we want to make sure you’ll stay warm and comfortable during the cooler months ahead. We’ve put together a few quick tips to help you prepare.

First, to prepare for fall and winter, you should change your furnace filter. This should be done regularly anyway, but it’s especially important before you switch over to heat. Changing your filter will ensure a smooth transition from cooling to heating.

After changing your filter, take this opportunity to check and clean your vents. Affordable Service offers thorough vent and duct cleaning at a reasonable price. Once clean, open all of the air vents in the rooms you want heated. (As a quick note, many homeowners use their seasonal changeover as a reminder to check their smoke detector batteries.)

Timing is also important. Don’t wait for the first freezing night to turn on the heat. Choose a cool day to make sure your heater is operational so you aren’t caught in a bind. Switch to heat before it gets too cold!

As always, if you suspect any problems with your heater or HVAC unit, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Affordable Service. We are always here to answer questions or we can come out and take a look at your unit. Affordable Service looks forward to hearing from you soon.
