In a state plagued by drought, The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority has put water restrictions into place to help ensure that we protect this precious resource as a community.  As the warmer weather sets in, New Mexicans must pay closer attention to their water usage.  This year, water restrictions went into effect on April 1st, and will continue to regulate water usage throughout the summer into the end of October. At Affordable Service, we care about the future of our community and try to do all we can to preserve water for future generations. We want to tell you a little more about these restrictions and what they mean for homeowners this summer.

No “sprinkler irrigation” is allowed in Bernalillo County between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm. If a homeowner is caught watering during those hours, they will face a fine. This is to minimize water loss due to the wind, and to keep homeowners conscious of the amount of water they use. “We really want to encourage people to water their landscapes as efficiently and responsibly as possible” said Carlos Bustos, Conservation Program Manager for the Water Authority.

The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority doesn’t impose day-of-the-week watering schedules, but they do have guidelines for how often you can water your landscape during the hot summer months:

  • March – Once a week
  • April and May – Twice a week
  • June through August – Three times a week
  • September and October – Twice a week
  • November – Once a week
