Affordable Service Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, and Electric have some tips on how you can tell if your outside spigot needs to be replaced Or, if the spigot is corroded, you might be headed for a major blow-out!
Some points to remember:
- A leaking spigot can lead to freezing and broken pipes inside your home if it’s below freezing outside.
- If your spigot is eroded, there’s more corrosion inside the pipe!
- According to the EPA, a spigot that drips every second can waste over 3,000 gallons of water every year.
- Replacing your leaking spigot can cause water damage to your home’s siding or undermine your home’s foundation.
So, what goes into replacing a leaking outdoor spigot?
Here are just a few of the steps we take to ensure that your spigot is replaced correctly:
We turn off the water to the house.
Then we drain the waterline.
We then remove the spigot, which is between 8″ and 16″ long.
Once the pipe is out of the designated area, we measure it and cut a new pipe.
Install new spigot and pipe.
Seal the surrounding area.
Turn the water back on and check for leaks.
