Shut Off The Power To Your Unit: You can turn the power off at the breaker or there may be an additional breaker near the unit. This could look like a handle that you pull down to shut off. Remember, do NOT turn the power off to the unit when it is running, this should be done by turning the inside thermometer off and waiting for the unit to turn off.
Start By Removing Debris: There should be a way to unscrew the top sections of your unit and lift it up to one side. This will make way for you to reach in and clear out any leaves and trash that may have blown in from the last time you cleaned it.
Make Sure To Clean The Fins: The fins are the metal grill on the outside of your air conditioner. You can clean these by taking your hose and spraying it down, starting from top working your way down. This is also an ideal time to fix any bent areas of the metal fins by straightening them up- you can use anything that has a flat edge that will fit in between.
Clean Around The Unit: Break out that leaf blower and move the pile of dead leaves from around it. This can cause the unit to lack sufficient airflow making it work harder while it is running.
Make sure it’s level: When the unit becomes uneven, it can mess with the coolant and will not operate as efficiently. If you need help, contact Affordable today!
Cleaning The Evaporator Coil: Inside in your furnace, there is a door just for your evaporative cooler coil. Take a soft brush to dust off any excess dust and then spray with a coil specific spray cleaner.
Clean and ReplaceYour Air Filter: The air intake vent can build up dust, so it’s not a bad idea to take your vacuum and clean the air intake vent. This is also a great time to replace the air filter in your furnace!
